The largest of the Atlantic provinces, New Brunswick is a bilingual, culturally diverse province with a warm people, abundant coastline and plenty of seafood, the latter of which can be purchased in one of the provinces numerous farmers’ markets. Usually held on Saturday mornings, these markets are a gathering place for the area’s residents and can be found in both larger centres like Fredericton, Saint John and Moncton, as well as in small villages and towns scattered throughout the province.

FUNDY COASTAL REGION

Not only home to some of New Brunswick's largest centres including Moncton, Dieppe and Saint John, the Fundy Coastal Region is the site of the world’s highest tides, numerous whales and fossil rich mudflats. These large centres provide visitors and residents access to bountiful shopping, including unique boutiques, popular chains and big box stores. For a more intimate shopping experience, shoppers can head to smaller communities such as Sackville, Grand Manan Island and Deer Island.

Greater Moncton
One of the most populated centres in the province, Moncton is centrally located in the Atlantic provinces and is a hub for both land and rail transportation. Within this hub city is some of the best shopping to be found in the region, which includes a number of shopping areas, shopping malls, a farmers’ market and specialty stores. The Trinity Power Centre, situated in the northwest part of the city, is one of the most popular shopping areas with its numerous box stores, movie theatre and numerous eateries. Visitors will find some of the city’s oldest buildings and most impressive landmarks, as well as abundant shopping, in Downtown Moncton. Stores in the area range from fashion boutiques to music stores and antique shops. Not far from downtown is the Champlain Place Mall in Dieppe, which features over 160 stores and is located beside the Crystal Palace Hotel and Amusement Park. During the weekend, the area hosts several farmers’ markets such as Moncton Market, which features arts, crafts, holiday items, baked goods, local produce and fresh meat, cheese and eggs.
Greater Saint John
Much of the shopping in Saint John—the oldest incorporated city in Canada—can be found in two areas within the city, Uptown and Saint John East. Uptown visitors will want to make a stop at the famous Saint John City Market, a year-round indoor farmers' market that offers quality delicacies and fresh seafood, produce, baked goods, meats and cheeses. The market also features handmade items made by local crafts people. Not far from the market are two shopping centres, Market Square and Brunswick Square, which are interconnected via an indoor pedway. Shoppers looking for recognizable names and brands will find them in Saint John East. This area is home to the East Point Shopping Area, a sizable retail district that contains major chain-brand and big box stores, as well as a number of restaurants.

RIVER VALLEY REGION

The River Valley Region is a fertile farming area and travellers will enjoy its many farmers’ markets, gift shops, specialty shops, craft shops and antique stores in urban centres like Fredericton, Oromocto, Perth-Andover, Kingston, Sussex and Woodstock.

Fredericton
Fredericton, New Brunswick’s capital city, is a combination of charming one-of-a-kind shops and modern shopping malls. Full of unique retailers, the Downtown Fredericton Shopping District is a popular destination for travellers. Located along the banks of the Saint John River, stores in the area include gifts and keepsakes, home furnishings and decor, jewellery and sports equipment. One of the most popular stops in the area is the nationally recognized W.W. Boyce Farmers' Market that has run continuously every Saturday morning since 1951. With over 200 vendors, the market not only carries all the goodies found in most markets but includes several one-of-a-kind and ethnic food vendors. Many of the area's big box stores can be found in the commercial area southwest of downtown. As well as being home to a number of large popular chain-brand stores, the area also has the largest shopping centre in the city, Regent Mall, which has a theatre and 115 stores and services.

Along the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 2)
Located at the Canadian-US border and not far from the border with Quebec, the city of Edmundston has a number of stores. Situated downtown, Place de l'Assomption is a popular shopping stop within the city. South of Edmundston along the Trans-Canada Highway, Grand Falls visitors and residents can find the necessities at the Grand Falls Shopping Centre.

ACADIAN COASTAL REGION

Set amidst a grand coastal panorama with salt water beaches and the picturesque Chaleur Bay, the Acadian Coastal Region has a strong Acadian culture that is visible in all aspects of life in the region. Much of the shopping in the area can be found in the year-round, weekend farmers' markets and quaint little shops that are located in the many villages along the coast, such as Shediac, Bouctouche, Richibucto, Tracadie-Sheila and Kouchibouguac. In the region's north, the city of Bathurst offer shoppers a chance to find many box stores as well as interesting independent shops.

Set along New Brunswick's breathtaking coast, visitors to Bathurst will delight in its abundant fresh seafood and beaches covered with sea glass treasures. Shopping in this bustling centre includes not only two malls and a farmers' market, but also a variety of quaint boutiques and unique shops, such as a fur shop, outdoor store, soap shops and home accessory stores. Both of the city's malls, the Bathurst Supermall and the Place Bathurst Mall, are located near the Bathurst Harbour. The City Farmers' Market, located downtown on Main Street, is filled with local goods like hand-made fashions and delicious seafood, produce and meats.

MIRAMICHI RIVER REGION

Known for its amazing salmon fishing and lively musical kitchen parties, the Miramichi River region follows the Miramichi River as it flows east to the Miramichi Bay through towns such as Boiestown, Doaktown, Blackville and Miramichi. Shopping in this area is limited and most of it is found within the Greater Miramichi area. Visitors can stop at one of the two markets—the seasonal Water Street Farmers’ Market and the year-round Newcastle Farmers’ Market—or at the city’s shopping centre, Miramichi Mall. The city also has a number of stores and shops that include gifts, music, books, crafts, jewellery, sporting goods, shoes and fashions for men, women and children.

APPALACHIAN RANGE REGION

The region of the Appalachian Range is a mix of coastline and forests in northern New Brunswick, just across Chaleur Bay from Quebec's Gaspe Peninsula. Campbellton, the largest centre in the region, serves the shopping needs of both residents and visitors to the area. Located near the mouth of the Restigouche River, the active city has two shopping centres, including the sizeable Sugarloaf Mall, which has over 30 stores. Other centres in the area offering shopping opportunities include Saint-Quentin, Kedgwick and Dalhousie.
